How can these organizations help?

Connecting with others doing language work can be beneficial in many ways.

  • They can share Best Practices
  • They can help you Network and connect you with others doing similar work
  • They can help you identify Funding opportunities in this area
  • They can offer Workshops and Trainings; some organizations may also be able to create custom workshops to meet your project’s need
  • They can Consult with you on your project and provide feedback if needed or requested
  • They can provide Solidarity and Community

How can you best work with these organizations?

  • Reach out early and often
  • Develop relationships with people in these organizations
  • Be clear and specific about your needs and interests

Sounds easy right? Networking and connecting with others can take some time. Finding opportunities such as Language Conferences or Summits are great places to learn about others, their work, and a chance to introduce yourself and connect. Community of Practices or Workshops/Trainings offered by various organizations are also good places to meet and connect. Also, do not forget the power for directly emailing organizations, keeping in mind that folks in these organizations may be quite busy. However, be patient, and don’t be afraid to follow up and try again if you do not get a reply on the first try. Many of these organizations are there to help with projects like yours!

In this section we have discussed how you can better collaborate with organizations already familiar with language documentation and revitalization. They are organizations that:

  • Already working in language areas
  • Some may be Indigenous-led organizations
  • Already operate under the ‘CARE’ or ‘Several R’s’ models

Additionally though, you may also benefit from collaborations, partnerships, and support from entities outside of this arena. We next look to finding potential partnerships with other academic institutions.
